TALE OF THE CHRIST OF HEALTH CHAPEL IN OLD SAN JUAN.
IN THE COLONIAL TIMES THERE WAS CELEBRATED AN ANNUAL HORSERACE THAT
WENT ALL OVER THE OLD CITY. ONE OF THE HORSES GOT OUT OF CONTROL AND
STARTED RUNNING SO FAST THAT THE JOCKEY WAS SURELY GOING TO GET
KILLED. AT THAT MOMENT A WOMAN CRIED - OH CHRIST OF HEALTH, PLEASE
STOP THAT HORSE. - THE HORSE STOPPED INSTANTLY AND THE RIDER WAS
SAVED. IN THAT SAME SPOT WAS BUILT THE CHAPEL OF THE CHRIST OF HEALTH
HONORING THE MIRACLE.

LEGEND OF THE FORTRESS
IT IS SAID THAT IN THE COLONIAL TIMES THERE WAS A SOLDIER OVERLOOKING
THE COAST FROM A LOOKOUT TOWER IN THE SPANISH FORTRESS OF EL MORRO.
THIS PARTICULAR SOLDIER WAS DRINKING AND GAMBLING AND SOLD HIS SOUL
TO THE DEVIL IF HE WOULD WIN THE BET. HE LOST AND SUDDENLY
DISAPPEARED LEAVING NO TRACE. UNTIL TODAY IT IS SAID THAT THE DEVIL
TOOK HIM AWAY.

CUSTOM (CHARACTERISTIC OF A PEOPLE)
PUERTO RICAN MEN (PUERTORICANOS) ARE ALWAYS CONCERNED ABOUT
"MUY MACHO" (VERY MASCULINE). THEY MUST NEVER SHOW
WEAKNESS OF ANY KIND. FOR THIS REASON, YOU NEVER CAN BELIEVE
ONE WHEN HE GIVES YOU DIRECTIONS BECAUSE HE MUST NEVER LET
ON IF HE DOESN'T KNOW THE ANSWER. HE WILL GIVE YOU DIRECTIONS
INVARIABLY WHETHER THEY ARE CORRECT OR NOT. IT TOOK US MANY
WASTED GALLONS OF GASOLINE BEFORE WE WERE FINALLY TOLD BY A
PUERTO RICAN WOMAN FRIEND THAT IT WAS NO USE ASKING. THE
WOMEN DON'T DO THIS.
