AT JEWISH WEDDINGS THE BRIDE AND GROOM DRINK FROM
A GLASS GOBLET. THE GROOM DRINKS FIRST TO SHOW HIS
AUTHORITY OVER THE BRIDE. THE BRIDE DRINKS SECOND
TO SHOW HER SUBMISSION TO HER HUSBAND. THEN THE
GROOM SMASHES THE GOBLET UNDER HIS FOOT SO THAT NO
ONE ELSE MAY DRINK FROM IT, SYMBOLIZING THAT NO
PERSON SHALL COME BETWEEN THIS COUPLE.

WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY FIRST CHILD I CONTINUALLY HAD
CRAVINGS FOR STRAWBERRIES. I WAS KNOWN TO EAT STRAWBERRIES
MORE THAN 3 TIMES IN A GIVEN DAY. MY MOTHER ONCE TOLD ME TO
STOP THIS HABIT OR MY CHILD WOULD LOOK LIKE A STRAWBERRY.
SHE SAID THAT IN THE OLD COUNTRY (HUNGARY), SUCH THINGS HAD
HAPPENED MANY TIMES. SHE SAID THAT MY CHILD WOULD CARRY WITH
HER, FOREVER, A REMINDER OF MY CRAVING. AS IT GOES, MY FIRST
CHILD WAS BORN WITH A STRAWBERRY SHAPED BIRTHMARK ON HER LEFT
LEG. NOW, SOME 25 YEARS LATER, SHE STILL HAS THE BIRTHMARK.

THIS MEANS THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE THE MEAL.
