WEATHER SUPERSTITION

IF YOU CAN SEE THE STARS AT NIGHT, IT WILL BE A SUNNY DAY TOMORROW.
BUT, IF YOU CANNOT SEE THE STARS, IT WILL RAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY.

Submitter comment: THE INFORMANT FIRST HEARD THIS WEATHER PREDICTOR IN POLAND AROUND
1910. TO THE COLLECTOR, IT SEEMS COMMON SENSE, SINCE IF YOU CAN
SEE THE STARS, THEN THERE ARE NO CLOUDS. IF THERE ARE NO CLOUDS
NO RAIN CAN BE PRODUCED. HOWEVER, THE INFORMANT HAD A VERY
STRONG CONVICTION THAT THIS THEORY WAS INFALLIBLE.

IF A PREGNANT WOMAN IS FRIGHTENED AND SHE TOUCHES A PART OF HER
BODY SHE WOULD GIVE THE CHILD A BIRTHMARK IN THAT SPOT. THE SHAPE
OF THE MARK WOULD RELATE TO WHATEVER CAUSED THE FEAR. MY
MOTHER-IN-LAW BELIEVED THAT THAT WAS WHY MY OLDEST DAUGHTER HAS A
WHEEL SHAPED BIRTHMARK ON THE BACK OF HER LEG. A WHEEL FELL OFF
OF OUR CAR WHEN I WAS PREGNANT AND SHE THINKS I MUST HAVE GRABED
MY LEG AND GIVEN CATHY THE BIRTHMARK.

Standing on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean just before

won't die or even stop wriggling until sundown.
