MARCO POLO

THIS GAME IS PLAYED IN A SWIMMING POOL. ONE PERSON
IS IT. HE CLOSES HIS EYES AND COUNTS TO TEN WHILE EVERYONE SCATTERS IN
THE POOL. HE THEN TURNS AROUND, WITH HIS EYES STILL CLOSED, AND YELLS
MARCO. EVERYONE ANSWERS BACK POLO. AND HE TRIES TO FIND A PERSON BY
LISTENING TO WHERE THE POLO COMES FROM. OR HE CAN LISTEN TO THE WATER
MOVING WHEN A PERSON SWIMS AWAY. HE CAN SAY MARCO AS MANY TIMES AS HE
WANTS AND EVERYONE MUST ANSWER. NO ONE CAN GET OUTSIDE OF THE POOL.
THE FIRST PERSON HE TOUCHES IS IT, AND THE GAME STARTS ALL OVER
AGAIN.

WHILE THE REST GO HUNTING FOR MEMBERS OF TEAM I. WHEN A HIDER IS
CAUGHT, HE IS BROUGHT TO THE JAIL. IF ONE OF HIS TEAM-MEMBERS IS
ABLE TO TAP HIM WHILE HE IS IN JAIL, THEN HE IS "RELEASED;" BUT IF
THE GUARD TAGS THE PERSON ATTEMPTING TO FREE HIS TEAM-MATE, THEN THAT
PERSON MUST GO IN JAIL, ALSO. WHEN ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE TEAM ARE
CAUGHT, SIDES ARE TRADED, AND TEAM II DOES THE HIDING. (IN MY WORDS)

COUNT TO 500 BY 5'S.
EVERYONE ELSE WOULD HIDE. WHEN THE COUNTING WAS DONE "IT" WOULD

TREE (WHICH WAS GOAL- THE SAFETY ZONE)
THE HIDING PLAYERS WOULD WAIT FOR A GOOD CHANCE TO RUN TO GOAL
WITHOUT BEING TAGGED BY "IT".
WHEN A PLAYER RAN FOR THE TREE OR "IT" SPOTTED SOMEONE HIDING,
THEY WOULD YELL "BLOODY MURDER", AND EVERYONE WOULD RUN FOR GOAL.

READY OR NOT HERE I COME
WITH THE USE OF THE FLASHLIGHT HE SEARCHED FOR THE HIDING PLAYERS.

TIN CAN COPPER

FOR THIS GAME YOU WILL NEED A BIG EMPTY CAN. THE PERSON THAT IS IT
IS THE TIN CAN COPPER. HE GUARDS THE TIN CAN. THE OBJECT OF THE
GAME IS FOR THE COPPER TO ARREST ALL OF THE PLAYERS AS THEY TRY TO
KICK THE CAN. THE TIN CAN COPPER STAYS IN THE AREA OF THE TIN CAN
PROTECTING IT FROM THE OTHERS. THE OTHER CHILDREN TRY TO SUCCEED IN
KICKING THE CAN AWAY FROM THE COPPER. BEFORE THE COPPER CAN CHASE
THE CHILD HE MUST FIRST RETURN THE CAN TO THE SAME SPOT. ONCE THE
CAN HAS BEEN REPLACED THE COPPER CAN TRY TO CATCH THE OTHERS. IF A
CHILD IS CAUGHT BEFORE THE CAN IS KICKED AGAIN THAT PERSON IS CAUGHT
FOR THE REST OF THE GAME.

Submitter comment: THE WORD COPPER IN THIS GAME MUST HAVE ORIGINATED FROM THAT TIME
BECAUSE I HAVE HEARD IT IN OLD MOVIES. THERE IS A VARIATION OF
THIS GAME I USED TO PLAY. WE CALLED IT KICK THE CAN.

FREEZE

THIS GAME, A VERSION OF TAG AND HIDE AND SEEK, INVOLVED AS MANY
PLAYERS AS ONE WANTED. IN IT SOMEONE WAS CHOSEN TO COUNT TO TEN
WHILE SUPPOSEDLY CLOSING HIS EYES. DURING THIS TIME, CHILDREN
HID. THE OBJECT OF THIS GAME WAS FOR THE PLAYERS TO REACH A HOME
BASE, WHICH IN THIS CASE WAS A LAUNDRY POLE, BEFORE THE ONE PERSON
COULD TAG SOMEONE.

Submitter comment: THIS WASN'T A BAD GAME ACCORDING TO MY FATHER, BUT IT JUST LOST ITS

THIS GAME COMBINES HIDE-AND-SEEK WITH KICK-THE-CAN. THERE
WOULD BE A CAN WHICH IS "HOME", AND WHEN THE PERSON WHO WAS
"IT" WOULD FIND SOMEONE, IT WOULD BE A RACE BACK TO THE
CAN TO SEE WHO COULD KICK IT FIRST. IF THE ONE WHO IS "IT"
KICKS IT FIRST, THEN THE HIDER IS OUT, AND IF THE HIDER KICKS
IT FIRST, THEN THE SEEKER IS OUT AND THE HIDER BECOMES THE SEEKER.

RUNNING GAME

WHEN I WAS YOUNG MY PARENTS SAT ON THE PORCH
IN THE EVENING AND THE KIDS OF THE BLOCK WOULD TAKE OVER
BEFORE THEY CAME OUT. ALL THE KIDS WOULD GATHER ON THE
PORCH AND ONE PERSON WOULD STAND IN FRONT OF THE GANG.
THE PERSON "IT" WOULD SAY "HANDS DROP FEET NO MOVE" AND
THEN COUNT TO TEN. THE REST WOULD DASH OFF MADLY AND HIDE
BEHIND TREES AND IN BUSHES. THE HANDS DROPPER WOULD GIVE
AN EXTRA WARNING THAT HE WAS AFTER THEM BY SAYING "WIPE
YOURSELF." I GUESS THAT WAS A LAST WARNING TO GET OFF THE
STEPS, AND TO GIVE THE LITTLER KIDS AND THE HEAVIER ONES
AN EXTRA CHANCE. THE PERSON "IT" WOULD FIND AND CATCH
EACH PERSON, AND THEN AS THEY WERE CAUGHT THEY WOULD HELP
HIM FIND THE OTHERS. THE FIRST ONE CAUGHT WAS THE NEXT
HANDS DROPPER SO THE FAST ONES WERE NEVER "IT". THE GAME
WAS OVER WHEN THE MOSQUITOS BEGAN TO STICK TO OUR PERSPIRING
BODIES. THE ULTIMATE SIGNAL FOR THE END WAS OF COURSE
THE STREET LIGHTS GOING ON AND THE PARENTS FINDING THEIR
DESIGNATED PLACES ON THE PORCH FOR AN EVENING OF GABBING.

"COVER-THE-EYE-AND-HIDE" OR "HIDE-AND-SEEK"

"THIS IS A GAME PLAYED IN THAILAND. THE PERSON WHO IS 'IT' MUST
COUNT AND THEN LOOK FOR THOSE WHO ARE HIDING. WHEN THAT ONE SEES
SOMEONE, HE OR SHE WILL CALL OUT THEIR NAME AND THEY'RE 'IT'
UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE CALLS OUT THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO WAS
ORIGINALLY 'IT.' THE ONE WHO CALLED OUT THEN RUNS AND TOUCHES
THAT PERSON AND HE OR SHE IS 'IT' AGAIN."

Submitter comment: THE THAI LANGUAGE FOR THIS GAME IS "PID-AB" WHICH MEANS "COVER

RED FOX BLOODY MURDER!

"A GAME SIMILAR TO HIDE-AND-SEEK IS 'RED FOX BLOODY MURDER!' IN
THIS GAME, THE PERSON WHO IS 'IT' HIDES INSTEAD OF THE PLAYERS
WHO COUNT WHILE HE IS HIDING AND GO SEEK HIM OUT. WHENEVER
ONE OF THE PLAYERS SEES THAT PERSON, THE PLAYER WILL SHOUT,
'RED FOX BLOODY MURDER!' AND WILL RUN FOR 'GOOL.' THE GAME
CONTINUES UNTIL SOMEONE IS CAUGHT OR ALL HAVE REACHED 'GOOL'
SAFELY."

Submitter comment: 'GOOL' REFERS TO THE SPOT THAT IS 'FREE.'
BEFORE RUNNING TO 'GOOL', EACH PLAYER MUST SHOUT "RED FOX
BLOODY MURDER!" AND THE PERSON HIDING HAS TO BE SEEN BY EACH
PLAYER.

GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD (HIDE-AND-SEEK VARIATION)

"ANOTHER GAME SIMILAR TO HIDE-AND-SEEK IS 'GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD.'
LIKE HIDE-AND-SEEK EVERYONE EXCEPT THE PERSON WHO IS IT WILL HIDE
AND THE ONE WHO IS 'IT' WILL SEARCH FOR THEM. IF HE/SHE CATCHES
SOMEONE, THAT PERSON IS THE 'GHOST'S' HELPER AND HELPS HIM/HER
TRY TO CATCH THE REST. AFTER EVERYONE HAS BEEN CAUGHT OR EVERY-
ONE HAS REACHED 'GOOL' (FREE SPOT), THE FIRST ONE WHO WAS
CAUGHT IS 'IT.'"
