Thirteen as Lucky Number
My lucky number has always been thirteen contrary to everyone
else's belief. Even Friday the thirteenth has always been an
especially good day for me. The reasons that I first chose this
to be my lucky number is that I was born on Friday August 13th, at
8:13 p.m. This was the eighth month, Thirteenth day at 8:13 and I
weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz.
Submitter comment:
She and her family believe that this is her lucky day because

day. She overcame the bad luck and therefore that day would

When pregnant if the child is carried high it's a boy and if
carried low it's a girl.
James Callow comment:
Of the five items in Puckett, Ohio, only no. 719 (from a
student nurse of English, Irish, Scottish heritage) equates a male
baby with high carriage; the four items in no. 720 all say that a
fetus carried low will turn out to be a boy.

Determining Fetus Sex
To determine the sex of a baby before it is born a needle is
threaded, approximately 12 inches long. The pregnant female lies
on her back and a friend, relative, etc. holds the thread where it
has been tied. The needle is pointed at the center of the female's
abdomen. If the motion of the needle and thread is circular it is
a girl; if the motion is rocking back and forth it is a boy.
Submitter comment:
This particular belief goes back to my great-grandmother's time
(in Poland) and was relayed to me by my mother. Many older Polish
women contend it works.
James Callow comment: For needles in sex determination see Puckett, Ohio, no. 860.
