Whenever there was particular loud thunderstorm with plenty of
lightning I was always told that it was the devil beating his wife
for something she had done which in turn the downpour of rain that
came along with the thunder was the angels crying in sympathy for
the devil's wife.

As a young child when your front teeth come out or you get
them pulled out you are supposed to save them so that an angel
will touch them and you will be blessed with white teeth.

Angels in the Attic
There are collectible figurines designed and sold by a woman
named Sarah of Chesaning, Michigan. One of the series is called
"angels in the attic." I met Sarah and she told me how this series
started. She said that all of her figurines represent a part of
her life. The "angels" is a collection of her retired figurines
that she adds angels wings to. The reason they do not go to
heaven, rather to the attic is because as a child she had been very
ill, almost died. Her father, a pharmacist, and very religious was
gravely concerned about Sarah. All the medications were not
helping, so he decided that he would bring her an angel to look at
while she was in bed. Each day for several days he went out and
purchased another angel, until there was a large collection of
them. Sarah survived her illness and proudly displayed her angels
in her room, as they had made her well. When she married, she
brought them with her to her new home. When she had children, she
feared they would break her angels, so she wrapped them and stored
them in her attic, until her children were older. She often told
them, however, that their home had "angels in the attic" watching
over them.

Twelve Angels (English Title)
This song was sung in Polish, called Twelve Angels (Anoiw). As
the Mother of the Bride is taking off the veil to give to the Maid
of Honor, it is sung. The Twelve Angels are going with the Bride
for protection because she is leaving her mother and father's house
to go live with her husband.

IN MT. CRAWFORD, VIRGINIA, THIS STORY IS OFTEN TOLD. THERE
WAS A REAL OLD LADY THAT LIVED IN A LOG CABIN. SHE WAS VERY
SUPERSTITIOUS AND EVERYONE AROUND THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS A WITCH.
SHE HAD A CAT THAT WOULD CLIMB ON TOP OF AN OLD BOARD FENCE
EVERY NIGHT AND WOULD MAKE A WHOLE LOT OF NOISE.
SO ONE NIGHT, THESE BOYS TOOK THE CAT AND CUT OFF HIS CLAWS,
SO THAT HE WOULDN'T CLIMB THE FENCE.
THEY DIDN'T HEAR ANYMORE ABOUT THE CAT. HOWEVER, WHEN SOMEONE
WENT TO VISIT THE OLD LADY, SHE WAS SITTING IN HER ROCKING
CHAIR. ALL OF HER FINGERS WERE CUT OFF AT THE ENDS AND SHE
HAD RAGS WRAPPED AROUND THEM.
