Kirk's Dogwood
Some years ago a man named Kirk was buried under a dogwood tree in a small community not far from McKenzie. The next spring the dogwood's blossoms, which had always previously been white, were of a deep red color. Kirk's neighbor was caught on evening trying to cut the tree down and confessed to his captor that he had murdered Kirk--which had been suspected but not proven.
