Song (Jest)
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school;
We have tortured all the teachers, and we've broke the Golden Rule;
We've marched down to the office, and we've hung the principal:
Our class is marching on.
Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Teacher hit me with a ruler.
I met her at the door
With a loaded forty-four;
And she ain't gonna teach no more.
Submitter comment:
I have heard by brother sing this when he was attending the St. Cunegunda Elementary School in Detroit (1962-64). It is sung to the melody of the "Battle Hymn of the Republic."
