THE RAILROAD CROSSING

A FEW YEARS AGO, MY HUSBAND WAS HITCHHIKING HOME FROM
DOWN SOUTH. HE WAS IN KENTUCKY AT THE TIME. HE WAS
WALKING OVER A RAILROAD TRACK. AS HE GOT TO THE OTHER
SIDE, HE HEARD A TRAIN COME BY. HE TURNED TO LOOK, AND
HERE WAS A MAN STANDING ON THE TRACK. THE TRAIN CAME BY
AND KNOCKED HIM DOWN. IT KILLED HIM. JACK (HER HUSBAND)
RAN INTO THE TOWN TO GET HELP. HE WENT AND TOLD THE
SHERIFF WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE WOULDN'T GO BACK TO LOOK.
HE ONLY LAUGHED AT JACK SAYING THIS HAPPENS EVERY YEAR
AT THIS TIME. YOU SEE, THE MAN GOT HIT BY THAT TRAIN
YEARS AGO, AND EVERY YEAR SINCE THEN, AT THE EXACT
TIME IT HAPPENED, IT HAPPENS ONCE AGAIN.
