I WAS TOLD THAT MY FRESHMAN COLLEGE ENGLISH
TEACHER, MISS HELTON, AT GULF PARK JR. COLLEGE
IN GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI, WAS READING A POEM
IN CLASS ONE (DAY) AND THAT SHE GOT SO
ENTRANCED BY THE POEM THAT SHE WALKED OUT
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CLASS PERIOD WITHOUT
SAYING A WORD--IN A DAZE. SHE WALKED ACROSS
THE CAMPUS TO A PIER WHICH EXTENDS OUT INTO
THE GULF AND WALKED TO THE END OF THE PIER
AND SAT DOWN. SHE SAT AND MEDITATED THERE
UNTIL THE CLASS WAS OVER.
