LOCAL LEGEND

THERE'S A STORY MY MOTHER USED TO TELL--SHE CHANGES
IT TO SUIT THE OCCASION. THIS ONE ORIGINALLY CAME
FROM MISSOURI.
THERE'S A HILL OFF HERE IN THE COUNTRY AND THERE'S
THIS OLD INDIAN BURIED ON TOP OF IT UNDER A STONE.
IF YOU GO UP THERE ON A MOONLESS NIGHT ALL ALONE,
AND SAY TO THAT INDIAN "INDIAN, INDIAN, ON THE HILL.
WHAT DID YOU DO THERE TO LIE SO STILL?" HE'LL
ANSWER--"NOTHING, NOTHING AT ALL."
SHE TELLS THIS AS A JOKE.
