Submitter comment: THE SUPERSTITION DATES BACK TO THE EARLY 1900S, BUT IN
THE 1940S AN INSTANCE HAPPENED TO MY GODMOTHER IN WHICH
SHE RIPPED HER WEDDING GOWN AND WITHIN A YEAR THE
MARRIAGE HAD BEEN ANNULLED.
