SAUHEGAN RIVER, MILFORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE

THIS RIVER THAT RUNS THROUGH MILFORD HAS A LEGEND THAT GOES LIKE
THIS: AN INDIAN WHO WAS HUNTING FOR HIS PIGS BY A RIVER SLIPPED
AND SCARED THEM AWAY. FROM THIS ACTION HE EXCLAIMED, "SCAW-HE-
GONE." (NOW KNOWN AS SOUHEGAN.)
