THE NEW YEAR IN BY BLOWING A HORN CALLED A SHOFAR.
IT BEINGS A TEN DAY PERIOD OF REVERENCE, AND EXAMINATION
OF CONSCIENCE. IT IS BLOWN AGAIN AT THE END OF THE
TEN DAYS, AND THIS BLOWING STARTS ONE DAY OF PENANCE.
