AT POLISH WEDDING RECEPTIONS, THE SINGLE MAN WHO CATCHES
THE BRIDE'S GARTER IS SUPPOSED TO PLACE IT ON THE LEG
OF THE GIRL WHO CAUGHT THE BRIDE'S BOUQUET OF FLOWERS.
IT IS BELIEVED BY MANY THAT THESE TWO PEOPLE ARE VERY
LIKELY TO GET MARRIED BEFORE LONG. HOWEVER, NOT
NECESSARILY WILL THEY GET MARRIED TO EACH OTHER.

Submitter comment: INFORMANT RELATES THIS AS HE HAS SEEN IT DONE ON A
NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. IT IS A COMMONLY PRACTICED
CUSTOM AT POLISH WEDDINGS, ACCORDING TO HIM.

Where learned: MICHIGAN ; DETROIT

Subject headings: CUSTOM FESTIVAL -- Marriage Garter toss

Date learned: 10-27-1971
