My parents took the family camping every summer. While driving
we kids would get very restless so my mother would get us
playing games. One of them was to have a contest between the
kids to see how many different license plates we could collect.
This was a game that she played when she was young while
traveling to California by car.

Submitter comment: Collect means to write down the different state license plates.
On one trip we collected every state except Hawaii and New
Hampshire.

Where learned: MICHIGAN, ASSUMED
