PACZKI DAY

THE DAY BEFORE ASH WEDNESDAY IS KNOWN AS PACZKI DAY,
AND ON THIS DAY MOST POLISH COOKS BAKE PACZKI AND
DISTRIBUTE THEM TO THE CHILDREN, AND THESE PACZKI ARE
THEN EATEN AS DESERT AFTER A MEAL ON THAT DAY.

Submitter comment: THE INFORMANT REMEMBERS THIS TRADITION FROM HER YOUTH
WHEN PACZKI, JELLY-BUNS, WERE EATEN ON THAT DAY,
ESPECIALLY TO REMIND THE PERSON OF THE LENTEN DAYS
WHICH LIE AHEAD.
