THE SETTLERS

THERE WAS A FAMILY OF SETTLERS AND THEY WERE ATTACKED
BY INDIANS. THE MOTHER AND THE CHILDREN WERE KILLED AND
THE FATHER WAS SHOT THROUGH THE CHEST WITH AN ARROW.
THE WHOLE FARM WAS IN HAVOC. THE SOLDIERS CAME AND
ASKED THE FARMER WHAT HAPPENED. HE TOLD THEM. THEN
THEY ASKED HIM IF HIS WOUND HURT. HE SAID, "IT ONLY
HURTS WHEN I LAUGH."
