ON NEW YEAR'S DAY THE FIRST PERSON TO STEP INTO THE HOUSE IS CALLED
THE "FIRST FOOTER, AND THEY BRING A PIECE OF COAL WITH THEM TO
BRING GOOD LUCK TO THE HOUSEHOLD.

AND, I BELIEVE THAT ONE HAS ITS ROOTS IN THE OTHER.
