EVERY SUMMER, FRANKLINVILLE, NEW YORK HOLDS A "PLAYGROUND CARNIVAL."
CHILDREN FROM AGES OF 8 TO 15 MAKE THEIR OWN FOOD AND GAME BOOTHS
AND SELL THEIR WARES. A GREASED POLE CLIMBING CONTEST IS HELD
WITH A FIVE DOLLAR REWARD. PRIZES ARE GIVEN OUT FOR THE BEST BOOTHS.

ST. PHILOMENA'S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN FRANKLINVILLE, NEW YORK, HOLDS A
LAWN FETE EVERY AUGUST. THIS IS A ONE DAY FAIR. BOOTHS ARE SET
UP IN THE AMERICAN LEGION PARK WHERE WOMEN'S HAND-MADE GOODS AND
REFRESHMENTS ARE SOLD. GAMBLING GAMES AND RAFFLES ARE ALSO HELD.
A CHICKEN DINNER IS SOLD ALL DAY IN THE LEGION HALL. THIS ATTRACTS
MANY PEOPLE FROM A 50 MILE RADIUS.

MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION

MEMORIAL DAY IN FRANKLINVILLE, NEW YORK IS CELEBRATED BY A PARADE
OF THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS. THE PARADE FIRST GOES TO ELM STREET
BRIDGE, WHERE A WREATH OF FLOWERS IS DROPPED INTO THE ISCHUA CREEK.
THE PARADE THEN MOVES TO THE CEMETERY, WHERE A WREATH OF FLOWERS IS
PLACED BEFORE THE "TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER." A CLERGYMAN MAKES
A SPEECH TO MARK THE END OF THE FORMAL CEREMONY. THE PEOPLE THEN
GO TO THEIR OWN HOMES.
