with lard and tie it around the base of a toe to heal a crack
in the skin (often caused by going barefoot).

Mrs. Wolf's mother, Martha (Kyle) Welty, was late in marrying.
Many of her customs and cures were, therefore, those which
were popular in the 1880's.

"Ojo" Remedy (Pink-eye)
A remedy for Pink eye (Conjunctivitis) is the breaking of an
egg and saying a pray over the egg three times. Place egg in a
shallow dish whole at the head of the bed of the infected person.
The "eye" under will remove the infection from the eye above.

When stepping on a nail or any metal object, tape any of the
following to the foot: a penny, a slice of potato, or a piece of
salt poor, to draw out any infection that may set up in the
