Saeed, Maya, and Nora Asleh. "Synthesis and Characterization of Minoxidil and Hybrids."

Minoxidil is a well-known vasodilator  (something that relaxes and widens blood vessels, making blood flow more easily) commonly used to treat hair loss and has been suggested to interact with cellular pathways and potentially influence cancer related processes. These processes are yet to be investigated. The work focuses on the synthesis of minoxidil intermediates and hybrids through oxidation of substituted pyrimidine compounds using magnesium monoperoxyphthalate (MMPP) followed by replacing pyridines with other biologically relevant amines. We aim to address challenges with reaction conditions and improve the efficiency and effectivities of these substitution reactions. The synthesis of these hybrids will assist us to evaluate the impact of these structural modifications on their biological actions by implementing new biochemical studies.
