AI-Powered Learning Innovations at the CHP Center for Augmenting Intelligence in Urban Health (CAI-UH)

The University of Detroit Mercy’s Center for Augmenting Intelligence in Urban Health (CAI-UH) is a multidisciplinary initiative dedicated to advancing human-centered and equitable artificial intelligence (AI) solutions across health sciences, education, and community health. In alignment with this mission, faculty and students within the College of Health Professions are developing and piloting a range of AI-integrated educational tools aimed at enhancing student competencies and preparing future health professionals for an AI-enabled practice environment.

This poster presents findings from an ongoing initiative that integrates generative AI tools into undergraduate and graduate health professions curricula. These projects include AI-driven clinical simulations, intelligent tutoring and exam preparation tools, mental health and health promotion chatbots, policy communication assistants, and AI-supported literature review and curriculum design tools.

Preliminary findings suggest that intentional AI integration enhances critical thinking, clinical reasoning, professional communication, and student confidence. Additionally, early results indicate potential benefits for curriculum alignment and the development of evidence-based practice skills.

This work reflects a broader institutional commitment to responsible, student-centered AI adoption and positions the University of Detroit Mercy as a model for purposeful AI integration in health professions education.
