Fulk, Emma, Jillian Ciszewski, and Lane Farkas. "Junction on the Ave."

JUNCTION ON THE AVE serves as a community and educational center
for neighbors and students alike. Located on Livernois Ave just south of W
McNichols Road, the site is directly across the street from the University
of Detroit Mercy and adjacent to the Fitzgerald neighborhood. With
programming that serves all age groups, Junction on the Ave will be a
connection point for students and neighbors.

With programming that results from multiple conversations with
community members, city officials, and people from the university, Junction
on the Ave houses space for community classes, Block Club meetings,
after-school care, a teen lounge, a vendor restaurant space, a rooftop bar,
and a porch for gathering. These amenities respond to the various needs
and wants that we heard from community engagement activities.

Additionally, with an inviting facade and several outdoor gathering spaces
for play and socialization, Junction on the Ave provides an exciting space
for all. The outdoor spaces include a porch for bands and gathering
that responds to Detroit’s porch culture, a courtyard, a basketball court
for neighbors and students to interact, a playground, and a bioswale
to provide both storwater management and visual appeal. The facade
design responds to the context through its materials and the spirit of the
community center through its bright color palette.
