Hugghis, Alayza, Amelia Linville, Fianna DeLuca, and Dr. Kathleen Zimmerman-Oster. "La Casa Guadalupana." †

Through the Allstate CELO Grant, students from the University of Detroit Mercy contributed to a comprehensive organizational development project for La Casa Guadalupana, a nonprofit organization serving Latino families in Southwest Detroit. The students’ work focused on strengthening governance, leadership capacity, and operational clarity. Key responsibilities included conducting job analyses for board and staff roles, supporting bylaw revision efforts, and contributing to the development of an updated Board Handbook. Additionally, the students also participated in reviewing leadership assessment data and preparing bilingual, culturally responsive training materials to support leadership development and a train‑the‑trainer model. Through research, stakeholder communication, and systems‑focused analysis, Detroit Mercy’s students helped deliver practical recommendations and tools to enhance organizational effectiveness, board functioning, and long‑term sustainability.
