Kohnke, Anne, and Harrison Haviland-Longo. "Cyber Defense & Operations: The Technical, Operational, and Managerial Fundamentals."

Students of cybersecurity often get overwhelmed at the sheer number of topics in the cybersecurity body of knowledge. Add to that the variety of career choices and trying to navigate the cybersecurity workforce frameworks with their listings of knowledge, skills, tasks, and capabilities and it gets even more perplexing. The purpose of this research project is to help aspiring cyber professionals understand the importance and relationships of cybersecurity topics organized into three main categories with their respective career options:

  1. Cybersecurity defense (blue team)
  2. Cybersecurity offense (red team)
  3. Cybersecurity governance, risk-based decision making, and compliance (management)

Additionally, hands-on labs will be created specifically for this research project. If you are a career switcher, desire to pursue a technical position, or get promoted into management you will gain an understanding of the overall discipline, how the topics are related, what topics to focus on and pursue further, and opportunities to apply what you learn with hands-on technical cyber labs.
