Burge, Casey, Alex Flores, Sam Gillmore, Abigail Graffenius, and Kory Sheehy. "Implications of Student Generative Artificial Intelligence Usage on Writing Center Pedagogy."

As generative artificial intelligence (AI) has increased in accessibility, higher education has been reshaped regarding students’ writing practices. Students now frequently use AI not only to help in the writing process, but to generate the writing itself. While there are benefits to AI usage in higher education, university faculty have been facing challenges when it comes to academic integrity. The goal of this study is to analyze the patterns of generative AI uses among undergraduate and graduate students at our university. By collecting qualitative and quantitative data, writing center consultants aim to better understand the role of AI in student motivation, and how to navigate these trends. The results of this study will influence a change in our policy, and university writing centers will adapt to these processes. This poster will highlight the results of the study.
