Leme, Kamila. "Self-Perceived Knowledge and Confidence of Dental Students in Performing Endodontic Treatment."

Competence in endodontic procedures is an essential component of dental education. Thus, the present study aims to assess third- and fourth-year dental students’ perceptions of their knowledge and confidence in performing root canal treatment, from diagnosis and case selection to obturation and follow-up care, in the predoctoral clinic. A 19-question survey will be administered to evaluate students’ understanding of the indications and contraindications for root canal therapy, familiarity with endodontic anatomy, techniques, and materials, and perceptions of educational adequacy. Quantitative data will be analyzed descriptively, and qualitative responses will undergo thematic analysis. The study was exempt from approval by the University of Detroit Mercy Institutional Review Board (IRB No. 25-26-34). Participation will be voluntary, and should not take more than 10 minutes. Responses will remain anonymous and confidential. Findings are expected to guide improvements in endodontic faculty development and clinical training.
