#AMINEXT? Classroom Conversations in the Shadow of Gun Violence

Gun violence has a marked effect on the way we conduct business on campus, the way we feel when we send our kids off to school, and the way we conduct conversations in our classrooms. It has also become increasingly clear that classroom climates are echoing the politically divided climate in our country. This makes the work of fostering civil discourse, maintaining professional neutrality, and creating inclusive environments more difficult but more imperative than ever. Research shows that schools who are proactive and equip teachers to face these challenging situations head on have significantly better outcomes for classroom management and the welfare of their students and faculty. This workshop is designed to give instructors a toolkit to draw from to help them navigate classroom conversations about gun violence, school shootings, or community injustice.
