Analysis of a series of silver coins of King Azes I via energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (EDXRF)

Nguyen, Grace, Justin Pothoof, and Mark Benvenuto

A series of fifteen silver coins of the Indo-Scythian King Azes (circa 50 BC – 5 AD) were analyzed via EDXRF for copper, silver, gold, lead, tin, zinc, cobalt, arsenic, iron, and nickel.  The compositional findings were considerably different from those of contemporary Roman and Parthian coins.  Elemental compositions will be presented and their significance discussed.
