Chancellor, University of Michigan - Dearborn

Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters

1989

Citation:

As the Chancellor of the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the first woman to preside over a four-year public college or university in Michigan, you have proven that no mountain is so high, that it cannot be climbed. A graduate of Cedar Crest College and Seton Hall University, you went on to receive a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Boston College. Your distinguished career as an educator began at Rutgers University in 1969. You continued to excel as a lecturer on education and soon were appointed Senior Associate Dean at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education ...a position you held for ten years. A respected trustee of several college and university boards, you have shared your wisdom and insight on education with the Children's Television Workshop, the Foundation Center, the Association of Governing Boards of Colleges and Universities, and the United States President's Advisory Council. Because of your commitment to excellence in education, the university is proud to confer upon you an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree. Commencement, University of Detroit, May 13, 1989.
