Citation:

Charles Franklin Kettering, Mechanical Engineer and Electrical Engineer of Ohio State University, who, by his intellectual force, courage and determination, has risen from humble beginnings to a high place in the industrial and scientific world; inventor of numerous modern devices which have revolutionized whole fields of mechanical, electrical and automotive engineering; champion of scientific research, not only by his own outstanding contributions to economic and industrial progress through this medium, but especially by his support, encouragement and promotion of research through industrial sponsorship; patron of educational effort, sympathetic student of its problems, and generous promoter of its advancement, is recommended for the degree of Doctor of Engineering, honoris causa, and to be enrolled on the list of those whom the university of Detroit is pleased to honor as worthy of special distinction.
