Title: Weekly Anglo-African - May 5, 1860

Speaker or author: editor

Newspaper or publication: Weekly Anglo-African (1859 - 1862)

The writer responds to comments made by Rev. Mr. Kettel at a recent convention regarding the question of where African Americans fit in the social structure. He is amazed that Reverend Kettell justifies his opinion on the mistreatment of slaves by saying that slaves were mistreated in Roman times. The place of cruelty, according to Reverend Kettel, is therefore to be accepted as part of the institution of slavery. To Reverend Kettel, slavery is not a sin and should continue.
